Innovative Treatments Offered Through Research Studies
Research is an activity designed to test a hypothesis, permit conclusions to be drawn, and thereby develop or contribute to generalized knowledge. It is the foundation for drug development and investigational studies while providing patients with new treatments at the earliest possible opportunity.

Houston Allergy & Asthma Associates is fortunate to offer their adult and pediatric patients the opportunity to test the effectiveness of the latest in pharmaceutical agents before these new medications reach the general public. These investigative studies are planned for improved treatment of asthma, sinusitis, atopic dermatitis, allergic rhinitis, as well as other related problems.

Participation in the studies will give our patients access to the very latest therapeutic modalities as well as a battery of diagnostic tests that are not typically covered by insurance plans. In addition, patients are compensated for their time with a stipend for participation in each study.

Most of the upcoming anticipated studies would be "Phase III" type as classified by the FDA. This classification means that the new medications have already undergone studies in hundreds of patients in order to establish safety, lack of significant or harmful side effects and to determine appropriate dosing. Phase III studies are strictly monitored by the FDA and other agencies; routine inspections and reviews are scheduled to assure the safety of the patients and the accuracy of results.

The adult and pediatric patients who qualify for participation in these studies will be provided with free study-medication, free study specific testing (which may include lung function testing, skin testing, chest x-rays and laboratory testing), physical examination as well as monetary compensation.
