Ages 12 – 75

Diagnosis of allergic asthma for at least 1 year
·
On Advair 500/50 BID for at least 8 weeks prior to
Visit 1
·
Inadequately controlled asthma
·
1 asthma exacerbation in the last 12 months
·
All patients will remain on current inhaled
corticosteroids therapy
·
No systemic steroids for 30 days prior to Visit 1
·
Placebo controlled

females, ages 12 and up
·
Diagnosis of asthma for at
least 6 months

Non-Smoker
·
Must be on a consistent
daily dose of inhaled corticosteroid for at least 30 days prior to
start of study

If on allergy shots, must
be on a stable regimen for at least 4 weeks prior to start of
study
·

Must be on low to medium
dose of inhaled corticosteroid for > 4 weeks preceding
screening

Must be symptomatic
(requiring short-acting bronchodilator) during 4 weeks prior to
screening

inhaled corticosteroid alone or with long-acting bronchodilator

History of > 2
asthma related unscheduled visits to a MD or ER w/in the last year
and > 3 visits in the last 2 years
·
12 hour visits required
·
